Hannah

Posted by Emily on Sunday, June 24th, 2012
Spotted walking along Massachusetts Avenue, a young lady from Dublin named Hannah, who decided spend her summer in Harvard Square, working for Urban Outfitters. I caught her as she was just finishing up her shift and headed home for the evening.

Boat Shoes

Spotted on Mt. Auburn street: two young gents who have just graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin. I like how the two of them are wearing boat shoes, but in very different ways.

Hairs to you

Posted by Emily on Thursday, June 21st, 2012
Was at a style event joint-hosted by Elle Magazine and Sebastian Professionals at the Eva Michelle Salon on Newbury Street. It was very lively, with plenty of prosecco flowing about and free hair touch ups. The salon, if I’ve heard correctly, opened just eight months ago. But it seems to already have built quite a devoted client base!
I got the chance to snap some pretty awesome hairstyles for you guys to see (I believe all of the featured ‘dos here are courtesy of the salon), along with some interesting garb. Funky colors and patterns seemed to be the theme for the night.
And this lady here is one of the receptionists for the salon, wearing a vintage-themed outfit. The hair especially speaks 1940s to me!

Neon

Posted by Emily on Wednesday, June 20th, 2012
Phew! Back from abroad, and now settling in here in Cambridge. Though, even in my jet-lagged delirium, it was hard to miss this neon-attired artist, Jordan Piantedosi, who was walking through The Pit (the brick area around the subway station entrance) with her artwork held under one arm.
Crazy sunglasses. She had a bit of a kooky Lady Gaga-esque absurdity about her that I really appreciated.
And I believe she said that this painting was a self-portrait of herself as a noble knight.

Ani

So I’ve country-hopped, and now find myself thoroughly jet-lagged in Singapore, hanging out with Colin and some other friends. The food is incredible here, though it’s extremely hot and humid (feels like constantly bring wrapped in a warm wet towel). Enjoying my stay thus far, but wanted to leave you a quick post before exploring some more of the city.
Featured is surgeon-in-training Ani, outside of the Cambridge Public Library. A very understated outfit that is made complete by subtle attention to detail, such as the choice of circular thick-rimmed glasses and cuffed pant legs.

Siran

Posted by Emily on Monday, June 4th, 2012
Hello again from abroad. Thought I’d take a break from rafting around in the Mediterranean and drop in a short post. I took these photos of a now-graduated senior named Siran a couple of weeks ago as I was hanging about on the patio outside Tory Row. I really liked the sherbet orange dress, whose simple silhouette emphasized the massive X running across its backside.

Cedrick

Posted by Emily on Thursday, May 31st, 2012
Greetings from Greece! Hope the weather is just as brilliant over there as it is here. Finally have gotten settled in, and have found the time to squeeze in another post. Here’s another excellent find from the Senior Luau a couple weeks back: Senior (now graduated, I believe) Cedrick in a relaxed outfit. I love the cuffed white pants, paired with a button-up blouse and straw hat. Quite nautical. Looks like he could very well stepped out of the French Riviera. And my favorite part: the two-toned boat shoes.

Also, Books&Liquor has just been featured in an awesome BostInno article, written by Lauren Landry, about the Boston-area university fashion scene. If you’re interested in reading, click here.

Congratulations Harvard Class of 2012

Posted by Emily on Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Congrats to the Harvard class of 2012 on all of your hard work!  Those miserable sleepless nights cramming and writing last-minute papers have finally paid off! Of course, I’ve graduated along with the class as well——but have no fear, for those of you who avidly follow Books&Liquor, as I’ll be sticking around Cambridge. I’ll be working and living here, so I will still update the blog. I’m hopping on a plane to Greece for a vacation with all of my roommates (in a few hours, in fact) but I’ll certainly keep the blog updated in the meantime with some of the photographs that I’ve taken over the past few weeks that I’ve been a bit too busy to get around to. See you soon!

Hanna

During Class Day: graduating senior Hanna. I often bump into Hanna in the Square or catch her walking around the River Houses dressed in interesting garb, and I always intend to photograph her, but in every instance I’ve not had my camera with me. I’m very glad to have spotted her today during the class day picnic event——probably one of my last chances to have featured her on this blog! Of course, donning an elegant vintage dress and bag. Anyway, congrats to Hanna on your four years of hard work here——hope to catch you during graduation tomorrow!

Danny and Danny

Posted by Emily on Monday, May 21st, 2012
In the Quad during the Senior Luau: two Dannys, one studying neurobiology and the other pursuing molecular and cellular biology, both in awesome patterned shirts.

You might also remember that each have actually been featured on Books&Liquor  on separate occasions: here, and here. If I recall correctly, both were photographed during the fall semester. It’s interesting to see how personal style changes over seasons, isn’t it?
