Depth Perception

I promise the handbag was not simply a cartoon I superimposed onto this picture.

New Yorker Sueann, who was in Boston for the weekend, was toting around this high contrast, fruit-colored purse that surely would make anyone look twice. Though a fully functional bag, it seemed, from afar, like a two-dimensional flat image from a comic book. You can get one here.

Phew. I thought I was living in a cartoon reality for a second there.

And of course, a 70’s-does-Gatsy themed shirt.

Also––notice that crosstie. That piece of black cloth underneath her collar. I thought they’ve been largely phased out. But it looks like Sueann’s bringing them back (going to buy myself a pair on Etsy right NOW).

Very stylish. It’s no wonder that she’s been featured once before on the fashion pages of the Wall Street Journal.

Black and White

Outside of the T, a red head named Andrea O’Meara, who works as the Associate Director at the Brattle Film Foundation, with red lips and an interesting black and white patterned dress.

As for her style, Andrea says, “I’m stylistically influenced by the wives of the Beatles in the 60’s and by Shelly Duvall in The Shining.”

In Allston: a huge, flouncy vintage circle skirt bedecked with lines of sequins. It features a scenic watercolor painting of a quaint village, replete with houses, trees, and even figures in the distance. Forget patterned cloth——why not just wear a beautiful art print?
Sweet two-tone sunglasses.

Vintage

Outside of Oona’s, one of their employees dressed in some amazing vintage garb. A head scarf with pinks that pop and match her shoes, an assortment of silver rings, and circular sunglasses with caramel yellow frames.

My favorite part of this outfit, of course, is the vintage shift dress———the crosshatch and flower print mimics a sketchbook drawing.

Feathers and First Fridays

Posted by Emily on Saturday, August 4th, 2012
The Institute of Contemporary Art holds an open event every first Friday of the month for the summer, where the outside back deck overlooking the harbor turns into a dance floor with food, drinks, and a live DJ. Inside, there are performances and gallery talks. A definite must for your summer bucket list. There’s only one left scheduled for the summer, and these get entirely sold out, so make sure you buy your tickets beforehand!

I’ve found that a lot of the guests themselves are works of art——dressed up in all sorts of festive attire.

These feathers make for a brilliant silhouette against the sunset.
